When
Nike and
Riccardo Tisci , former artistic director of
Givenchy and
Burberry , collaborate, it is rarely insignificant. After making their mark on the 2010s with iconic pairs such as the
Air Force 1 "High Rt" , the
Dunk "Lux Chukka" and the
Zoom Legend , the duo returns in 2025 with a radically different offering: the
Mercer Bag .
A choice that may surprise, but which reflects a natural evolution of streetwear towards more premium and functional pieces.
The Mercer Bag: a bag designed for the new era of street-luxury
Goodbye sneakers, hello leather goods. With the Mercer Bag , Riccardo Tisci brings his refined aesthetic to an accessory that fuses Italian elegance and Nike 's sporting DNA.
The design strikes a balance between minimalism and meticulous details:
Ultra-soft black grained leather for a premium texture; an embossed Swoosh, subtly integrated in leather, far from flashy logos; gold metallic details, with the initials " RT " which sign the collaboration; and an adjustable shoulder strap, for carrying by hand or crossbody.
This is not a classic bag but a piece that appeals to those who want a hybrid accessory, equally suited to casual and dressier looks.
Why the shift from sneakers to bags?
The announcement of this project is not insignificant. It reflects an evolution in the streetwear market and new consumer expectations.
After a decade of ubiquitous sneaker collaborations, brands need to diversify. More and more luxury collections are focusing on bags and small accessories as key pieces. This is especially true since those who bought AF1s in 2014 now want more sophisticated and refined items, without losing their urban DNA.
Riccardo Tisci understood this well. After modernizing Givenchy and reinventing Burberry , he is now applying this vision to Nike .
An anticipated drop... and surely short-lived.
Scheduled for release on March 1, 2025, it's highly likely that Mercer Bag stocks will sell out within hours.
Nike is not abandoning its roots, but rather adapting its language to the new expectations of an audience that oscillates between sneaker culture and high-end fashion.
